Happy Birthday My Little Olive {Long Island Dog Photographer}

My sweet little Olive is 1 today!  I knew she was meant to be my dog when I found out we had the same birthday!  Thanks Mom and Pete for one of the true joys of my life.

Good Bye Sweet Sophie CoCo {Long Island Dog Photographer}

My heart is broken.  One of my favorite dogs, my cousin’s sweet boxer Sophie Coco died this week unexpectedly at three years old.  She got an infection which over took her body quickly and she passed away.  My cousin and her family are still in shock and will miss this sweet dog forever.  I saw her last when I visited Louisiana in March and got to see what a wonderful mother Sophie was to her pups.

I will miss you Sophie Coco.  Say hi to my Woody, Sophie and Grace up in dog heaven.

The Dogs of The No. Neck ~ Meet Nell {New York Dog Photographer}

My husband, Olive and I spent a wonderful week on the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia.  This is one of the most beautiful, historic places on the East coast!  If you ever have the opportunity, go!

We stayed at my Sister and Brother-in-law’s beautiful vacation home surrounded by water, beauty and a few really cute pups as you can see here.  Meet Nell.  Nell is a Boykin Spaniel, a hunting dog bred in South Carolina.  All I know is she is the cutest thing you have ever seen.  As you can see Olive was smitten with her.  I always see my little sweet 9 month old Olive as a little thing until I saw her next to Nell.  All of a sudden she was a giant!       http://www.boykinspaniel.org/

Sweet Stella {Long Island Dog Photographer}

Stella’s mom won an auction donation I made to the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s annual Jeans and Jewels dinner and I am so delighted she did.  I got to meet the sweetest little Yorkie named Stella.  Stella loves “mommy treats” and kisses.  Especially kisses!  She made me fell very welcome.  I have always loved Yorkies but they now have a very special place in my heart because of my little Gracie.  I think a play-date could be in her future!

Here is a quick sneak peek for Mom until the gallery is up.  Enjoy!

Gracie Needs a Haircut! {Long Island Dog Photographer}

I think it may be time for Gracie girl to get a haircut.  I can’t see her sweet eyes and my family will kill me if I put hair accessories in her hair as seen below.  Hey, she didn’t seem to mind it and appreciated the ability to see clearly!

So in the best interest of Gracie’s sight and comfort, I am considering making an appointment for her first professional grooming.  At the same time I am considering giving her a little trim around the eyes myself. This is reminds me of making the first haircut appointment for my daughter so many years ago.  It was a bit traumatic but the end result was worth it and she got a lollipop and had fun with the staff at the salon.   She even looked forward to it the next time.   I want Gracie to have many experiences while she is young so she will be a well adjusted little dog who isn’t afraid of the world.  Will having her professionally groomed now be better for her in the long run or should I just do it myself because it doesn’t matter?  What would Cesar or Victoria say?  I am going to have to think about this for a while.

I’ll keep you posted.

Gracie meets her 1st client! {Long Island Dog Photographer}

I have been awful as usual about keeping up with my blog!  Gracie is doing well and makes me laugh every day.  That is not to say that some days have been a real challenge.  She knows to go potty outdoors but hasn’t figured out exactly how to tell me when she has to go.  If I take her out every hour we are good.  If not, when she has to go she just goes!  One of my clients uses a bell on the door and we are working on that.  I will let you know how it goes.

Gracie recently met her first client who has a little Yorkie named Emma.  This was her first play date with another dog which she and Emma seemed to enjoy.  Emma likes other dogs better than people she doesn’t know.  Here is a photo of Miss C with Gracie.  I had to record Gracie’s first client moment!

Meet Zeus {New York Dog Photographer}

If my Gracie ever obeys the way that Zeus does I would be one proud mama!  Really, Zeus is a perfect gentleman and the best trained dog I have ever photographed.  I love his long legs and his beautiful markings.  He even loves his new baby brother L.  What a good dog!

Gracie :: Day 1 {LI Dog Photographer}

After the last sad post I am delighted to introduce you to our new family member, Gracie.  I didn’t think I would find a dog for quite a while but when I saw Gracie it was love at first site.  Gracie is the name she came with and since she is 4mths old and used to this name we decided to keep it.  How fortunate that it is one of my favorite!

Here are a few photos of her on her first day with us which was yesterday.  She is setteling in just fine and charming my husband, daughter and any one who comes to visit.  She is not so keen on the crate but we are working on it.  She has not had an accident in the house yet which I can hardly believe.  What an amazing pup!

I have never had such a small dog before and it takes a little getting used to!  It will be hard not to baby her too much but I have spent the week ready Cesar Milan’s book How To Raise The Perfect Dog and I know what I need to do…  This will not be easy!

Stay tuned for more adventures with Gracie.

Happy 4th!

Goodbye Dear Friend {Long Island Dog Photographer}

It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of my sweet pup Sophie.  Sophie has been suffering from an ocular tumor for the past 9 months.  Sophie handled her last months with love, dignity and amazing courage.  She has been my best friend and companion for more than 12 years.

Sophie often accompanied me on photo sessions to the delight of my little clients.  Two of my favorite clients that I see each year really loved Sophie.  One year I made the great mistake of leaving Sophie behind when I went for our annual photography session in PA.  Not a good idea!  Little G cried immeadiately when she saw me without Sophie and her sister H wasn’t a bit too happy either.  Needlees to say, that was a mistake that I didn’t make again and the girls and then their little brother took a photo with Sophie every year.

Sophie loved these outings and any outing that included riding in the car.  In the winter of 2002, Sophie and I drove from Long Island to Baton Rouge, LA stopping along the way to visit family and friends and visiting interesting sites in many states.  What a great travel companion she was making friends at every stop!  People who didn’t like dogs all seemed to like Sophie.  She was so darn cute and sweet you just couldn’t help yourself.

Our annual summer trips to Maine were also something Sophie enjoyed as much as we did.  As soon as we drove up to the ferry she would know and get excited.  She loved sitting on the porch looking out on Penobscot Bay and hanging out with her dog friend who lived next door.

There are no words to say how much we will miss her.  She gave us nothing but joy and unconditional love every day of her life.  Our only solace is knowing that she is no longer suffering and is now at peace.  She will be in our hearts forever. I love you Sophie girl.
