Gracie :: Day 1 {LI Dog Photographer}

After the last sad post I am delighted to introduce you to our new family member, Gracie.  I didn’t think I would find a dog for quite a while but when I saw Gracie it was love at first site.  Gracie is the name she came with and since she is 4mths old and used to this name we decided to keep it.  How fortunate that it is one of my favorite!

Here are a few photos of her on her first day with us which was yesterday.  She is setteling in just fine and charming my husband, daughter and any one who comes to visit.  She is not so keen on the crate but we are working on it.  She has not had an accident in the house yet which I can hardly believe.  What an amazing pup!

I have never had such a small dog before and it takes a little getting used to!  It will be hard not to baby her too much but I have spent the week ready Cesar Milan’s book How To Raise The Perfect Dog and I know what I need to do…  This will not be easy!

Stay tuned for more adventures with Gracie.

Happy 4th!

Goodbye Dear Friend {Long Island Dog Photographer}

It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of my sweet pup Sophie.  Sophie has been suffering from an ocular tumor for the past 9 months.  Sophie handled her last months with love, dignity and amazing courage.  She has been my best friend and companion for more than 12 years.

Sophie often accompanied me on photo sessions to the delight of my little clients.  Two of my favorite clients that I see each year really loved Sophie.  One year I made the great mistake of leaving Sophie behind when I went for our annual photography session in PA.  Not a good idea!  Little G cried immeadiately when she saw me without Sophie and her sister H wasn’t a bit too happy either.  Needlees to say, that was a mistake that I didn’t make again and the girls and then their little brother took a photo with Sophie every year.

Sophie loved these outings and any outing that included riding in the car.  In the winter of 2002, Sophie and I drove from Long Island to Baton Rouge, LA stopping along the way to visit family and friends and visiting interesting sites in many states.  What a great travel companion she was making friends at every stop!  People who didn’t like dogs all seemed to like Sophie.  She was so darn cute and sweet you just couldn’t help yourself.

Our annual summer trips to Maine were also something Sophie enjoyed as much as we did.  As soon as we drove up to the ferry she would know and get excited.  She loved sitting on the porch looking out on Penobscot Bay and hanging out with her dog friend who lived next door.

There are no words to say how much we will miss her.  She gave us nothing but joy and unconditional love every day of her life.  Our only solace is knowing that she is no longer suffering and is now at peace.  She will be in our hearts forever. I love you Sophie girl.

Puppy Love {Long Island Dog Photographer}

If you have ever met a Cavalier King Charles spaniel I am sure he/she melted your heart.  No exception here!  I have special knowledge of this because I had a Cavalier named Woody who was the cutes and most loving dog.  They are truly the best lap warmers. So when Cayden’s mom called to say that her daughter won a donated session at the annual Fur Ball fundraiser for Save-A-Pet, I was delighted!

Save-A-Pet is a wonderful animal rescue organization on Long Island who has been featured on quite a few Animal Planet programs.  If you are an animal lover and want to donate to a great organization, I can happily recommend them.  Our beloved 13 year old cat Moe was a Save-A-Pet resident at one time.  Our newest family member, the cutest grey kitten you have ever seen was adopted at Christmas from Save-A-Pet as a gift for my daughter and Moe.  Moe wasn’t exactly happy about his gift at first but now loves his new brother.

Cayden and his family were a joy to work with.  I think he has a better wardrobe than I do!  Enjoy the sneak peek.  Your gallery will be up soon!

Frenchie Love = Milo {Long Island New York Dog Photographer}

Milo was the first French Bulldog I have photographed and I certainly hope he will not be the last!   Oh what a sweet pup!  He was loving, energetic, smart and a real character!  I heard that Frenchies were not very athletic… well they have not met Milo and the rubber chicken.  Milo would do anything to get that squeaky rubber chicken!  He jumped, he ran, he spoke.  He was marvelous!

Here is a little sneak peek for his parents until the gallery is up.  Thanks for such a fun time yesterday!

Pax {New York Dog Photographer}

Pax belongs to one of my favorite families.  Every time I go to their home, I see Pax jumping up and down at the window.  It is always the funniest site to see those fluffy ears up in the air and then to see him disappear on the way down only to bounce back up.  He is like a poodle jack-in-the-box!

Shop Pups {NY Dog Photographer}

I had the pleasure of photographing my friend and very talented interior designer Eva Glaser’s sweet pups in her beautiful shop, Home & Garden Co. in Port Jefferson, NY.  Eva had lost her beloved Boston Terrier Rosie about a year ago.  You can see Rosie pictured on Eva’s site www.evaandyou.com.

Eva and her other pup Charlie missed Rosie terribly.  As luck would have it, a friend of Eva’s had a sweet Boston Terrier and Pug that needed to find a new home and the rest is history.  Lucy and Pickles are as happy as can be with their new family and are great ambassadors along with their brother Charlie for the shop.

Eva has a brand new blog (http://evaandyou.blogspot.com/) that I have just added to my Google Reader subscriptions which will be filled with information on design, art and all things beautiful.  Check it out!

Charlie is a Jackshitz! My spelling may be a problem here. Charlie is a one of a kind mix of Jack Russel and Shih Tzu! So cute! He looks a bit like my Sophie.

Goodbye Dear Friend {NY Dog Photographer}

Today one of the sweetest dogs to ever live passed away.  Simon, who at the age of 12 lost his life to cancer.  He gave great joy to his family and to all who knew him.  I am proud to say that I was one of his favorite non-family humans, an honor that I will cherish forever.  My heart breaks for his family and his doggie cousins Boz and Stax who will miss him terribly.

Rest in peace dear friend.

Sneak Peek: Ahh…Spring and Puppies! {NY Dog Photographer}

What could be better!  Couldn’t you just kiss this little guy all over.  That is just what I did.  Little Riley is the newest addition to the Q family.  He has an older 11 year old doggie sister Abby who it seems is pretty excited about his arrival.  His human sisters are pretty excited as well.  See them here.

A Border Design for Sophie Coco {NY Dog Photographer}

I had to do a pink one!

{New Product} Beautiful Border Mats

I love this design idea.  These borders would be a great idea for a wonderfully graphic lifestyle art piece in canvas or as pages in our custom books and session albums.  There are many designs and colors can be changed to  work with decor in a room or an elelment of the photo.  Of course simple classic black and white works great with Lola here!  I would love to know what you think!  See more designs at the SMP blog.
